This is the Volume Control as you see in Adobe Audition. It is used to increase the Amplitude or decrease the amplitude of a waveform as displayed in the Main Edit Mode or the Multitrack Mode

Most of my audio files are in FLAC format. An editor that cannot not edit this format is of limited use to me.
